Working on Big White’s February Issue
Updated: Jun 19, 2018
It’s a beautiful day here up on the mountain - the kind of day that makes me think I can live here year-round. Looking out towards Kelowna at the big grey soupy mass that no doubt has the valley clogged in, I’m grateful to be where the sunshine is.
I wrote the Big White News Magazine for ten years - from 2002 to 2012, and was sad when publishers Capital News decided to move it in-house. After it collapsed, I decided to see if I could get it going again last year and thankfully was able to get Big White and Capital News to agree to let me take on the resurrection of the little newspaper magazine.
Now that I’m into the second year back, I’m enjoying it as much as ever. There are always stories just waiting to be found and all I have to do is put on my skis, head up the chairlift and I find them!
Yesterday I rode up the lift with a woman from San Francisco, one from London England and another from Toronto, all of whom are on the hill this week for the Master’s Week camp. After hearing them rave about how great the program is, I pulled out my phone and did the interview on the chairlift, took photos at the top of the hill, eh voila! Another story for the February issue!
Yes, on days like this, when I remind myself that I’m working as I ride up the chairlift and ski through the fresh powder, I truly love my life!
